Window Seals

Window seals are essential components for the functionality and longevity of modern window systems. They perform several functions simultaneously: preventing the ingress of draughts, driving rain, dust, and noise; ensuring the energy efficiency of buildings; protecting fittings and frames through even distribution of closing pressure; and contributing to a pleasant indoor climate. High-quality seals also improve the operability of windows by enabling smooth and quiet closing.

Precision and Variety for Every Application

Windows vary significantly depending on design, material, and area of use. That’s why there are different types of seals, each optimally adapted to specific requirements:

Stop seals – These form the sealing level between the sash and the frame and are responsible for basic protection against draughts and moisture.
Centre seals – An additional sealing level in the frame profile increases thermal insulation and improves soundproofing. This solution is commonly used in modern plastic and aluminium windows.
Glazing seals – These secure the position of the glass pane within the sash, prevent movement in the rebate area, and reliably protect against moisture ingress.

All of these seal types are available from GfA in a wide selection – suitable for new builds, renovations, or special applications.

Material Selection for Window Seals

Selecting the right material is crucial for durability and performance:

- PVC (55 ShA standard) – robust, low-maintenance, and cost-effective; ideal for many standard applications.

- TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) – durable, flexible, and temperature-resistant, with high recovery force. Particularly suitable for heavily used windows with frequent opening and closing.
- Silicone – permanently elastic, UV- and weather-resistant, temperature-resistant from -60 to +200 °C. The first choice for demanding environments and extreme climatic conditions.

Colours and Special Colours

To ensure the seal not only performs well technically but also matches visually, we offer a wide range of colours:

Standard colours: black, window grey, white, transparent
Special colours: antique brown, anthracite grey, light grey, brown, beige, basalt grey, graphite black
Custom colours: almost any RAL colour available from 200 m production quantity

This allows window seals to be harmoniously integrated into any frame design.

Areas of Application and Use

Window seals are indispensable in both new buildings and in the renovation of older structures. While new builds place high demands on thermal insulation and soundproofing, modernisation often focuses on optimising existing systems. By replacing or retrofitting seals, energy loss can be significantly reduced and living comfort sustainably improved.

Installation requires clean, dry contact surfaces and even fitting. Talc-coated or silicone-oiled seals simplify processing. Regular visual inspections and cleaning with mild detergent significantly extend service life. Worn seals should be replaced promptly to avoid damage to frames or fittings.
