Our TPE seals and technical TPE profiles are available in a wide range of rectangular, square and flat cross-sections. A variety of dimensions and degrees of hardness allow for precise adaptation to the installation space, material thickness and technical function.
TPE profiles for various technical applications
TPE stands for thermoplastic elastomer and combines elastic properties with the processability of thermoplastics. This makes the material suitable for numerous technical profile applications.
Depending on their cross-section, our TPE profiles can be used, for example, as seals, elastic spacers, support profiles, spacers, covers or protective profiles. The most suitable design depends on the specific construction and the intended load.
In a sealing application, for example, the required compression may be a decisive factor. In the case of a support or intermediate layer, on the other hand, material thickness, dimensional stability and available installation space are often of greater importance.
TPE flat profiles in a wide range of dimensions
Our rectangular and flat profiles made from TPE cover a wide range of different dimensions. The selection ranges from very thin profiles starting at 1 × 10 mm and compact cross-sections such as 2 × 5 mm up to wide flat profiles measuring 2 × 70 mm or 5 × 40 mm.
Our range is complemented by numerous intermediate sizes and square profiles such as 4 × 4, 6 × 6, 8 × 8 and 10 × 10 mm.
We therefore offer both narrow sealing and spacer profiles as well as wider support and flat profiles. The graduated standard dimensions make it easier to select a cross-section that suits the available installation space and the intended function.
Rectangular profile, flat profile or square profile?
The various profile shapes differ primarily in terms of the ratio of width to material thickness.
Flat profiles are significantly wider than they are tall. Depending on the application, they can be used, for example, as a flat support, intermediate layer or cover. Our range also includes wide versions up to 70 mm.
Rectangular profiles have a more compact cross-section and are suitable for various sealing, intermediate and functional applications.
Square profiles have the same dimensions on both sides. These include, for example, cross-sections ranging from 4 × 4 to 10 × 10 mm.
Ultimately, it is not the designations that are decisive for the selection, but the actual dimensions required, the material hardness and the function within the structure.
Different Shore hardnesses for TPE profiles
As well as the dimensions, the material hardness also influences the behaviour of our TPE profiles.
Shore A hardness describes the hardness of elastic materials. Lower Shore values generally indicate softer and more flexible designs, whilst higher values indicate greater material hardness and dimensional stability.
Our product range includes TPE profiles with, amongst others, >55 and 60 ShA. This allows us to meet different requirements for flexibility and dimensional stability.
However, Shore hardness should always be considered in conjunction with the profile cross-section. A thin flat profile behaves differently to a significantly more compact rectangular or square cross-section, even when the material hardness is the same.
Selecting the right TPE profile
Which of our TPE profiles is suitable depends first and foremost on the specific application within the design. The cross-section, material thickness and hardness can then be tailored specifically to this application.
Key selection criteria are:
- required width and material thickness
- available installation space
- rectangular, flat or square cross-section
- required Shore hardness
- desired flexibility
- mechanical stress
- required compression for sealing applications
- desired colour
If an existing profile is to be replaced, it is advisable to take measurements whilst it is under as little load as possible. For new designs, you can select from our range of standard dimensions.
Measuring TPE profiles correctly
For rectangular and flat profiles, the width and thickness or height are particularly important.
Even slight differences in dimensions can affect how a profile fits within a structure or how it behaves under load. In addition to the external dimensions, it is therefore important to consider whether the profile will simply rest on a surface, serve as a spacer or be specifically compressed when in use.
When selecting a replacement profile, the required material hardness should also be taken into account. Two profiles with identical dimensions may behave differently due to varying Shore hardnesses.
Colours of our TPE rectangular and flat profiles
Depending on the version, our TPE rectangular and flat profiles are available in black and window grey.
Not every cross-section is automatically available in both colours. We therefore recommend that you first select the technically suitable dimensions and Shore hardness, and then consider the colours available for that specification.
For bespoke projects, we also manufacture profiles from 200 metres in your chosen colour.
Wide range of standard cross-sections
Our standard profiles cover a wide range of widths and material thicknesses. The range starts with very thin profiles with a 1 mm material thickness and extends to wide flat profiles with a 70 mm width.
In between, we offer a wide range of graduated rectangular, flat and square cross-sections. This means that suitable dimensions for many technical applications can be found within our standard range.
This makes selection particularly easy for designs where a specific installation space is stipulated and the width and material thickness must be tailored to it as precisely as possible.
TPE and other materials for technical profiles
Our TPE rectangular and flat profiles are available in a wide range of dimensions and different degrees of hardness for technical applications. In addition, we also manufacture rectangular and flat profiles from other materials.
Our product range also includes, for example, profiles made from PVC. This enables us to tailor the material, profile geometry and material hardness specifically to different technical requirements.
The choice of suitable material depends on the required flexibility, dimensional stability, mechanical stress and the specific installation situation.
Standard profile or bespoke solution?
Thanks to our wide range of rectangular and flat profiles, many technical applications can already be realised using an existing standard cross-section.
If an existing dimension is not sufficient, we also develop custom profile geometries. Our in-house toolmaking and rapid prototyping facilities enable us to tailor new profiles specifically to the technical requirements at hand.
These can be based, for example, on an existing sample, a drawing or digital design data.
