Magnetic seals for showers
Magnetic seals are an essential component in modern shower systems. They ensure that glass doors close securely, prevent water from leaking out and maintain a high level of comfort during daily use. Particularly in walk-in showers or frameless glass showers, the quality of the magnetic seals is crucial for functionality and durability.
How it works
The principle is simple and effective: two opposing profiles are each fitted with a magnetic strip. When closed, the magnets attract each other, aligning the door panels precisely and holding them tightly in place. This creates a uniform, all-round seal that keeps moisture inside and the bathroom dry.
Materials and hardness
Our magnetic seals are made from high-quality, transparent plastic, which blends harmoniously into any bathroom design. With a Shore hardness of 75 ShA° / 80 ShD°, they combine flexibility and stability. The material remains elastic, seals reliably and withstands frequent use. Furthermore, the seals are UV-resistant, easy to maintain and resistant to ageing – a clear advantage in the high-humidity environment of a bathroom.
Colours of magnetic seals
The standard colour is transparent, so the seal is barely noticeable. Transparent magnetic seals can be combined with all types of glass and shower profiles and are ideal for modern, frameless showers.
Variants and differences
Magnetic seals are available in several designs:
- NS (Groove System): This variant is fitted precisely into the groove of the glass or door edge. It is particularly sturdy and offers a discreet appearance.
- With magnet: Here, integrated magnetic strips provide the holding force. There are differences in magnetic strength – it is important that both profiles are compatible to ensure optimal hold.
- Straight vs. angledStraight magnetic seals are suitable for doors that close at the same height. Angled versions are required for corner solutions or non-standard dimensions.
- Differences in glass thickness: Magnetic seals are available for different glass thicknesses (e.g. 6 mm, 8 mm or 10 mm). It is important to ensure a precise match with the glass used so that the seal fits securely.
What to look out for
When buying and replacing magnetic seals, the following points are crucial:
- Check the glass thickness – the seal must match the thickness of the glass door exactly.
- Note the door hinge side – right- or left-hand door, opening inwards or outwards.
- Match the magnet strength – both magnetic profiles must be compatible.
- Installation position – the seal length and alignment should be chosen so that the door closes gently but tightly.
- Ease of installation – talcum-coated profiles or ready-made sets make installation considerably easier.
Use and care
Installation is usually carried out by simply clipping the profile onto the edge of the glass. It is important that the glass surface is clean and free of grease. Talcum-coated variants make fitting easier and prevent the profiles from sticking during installation. For maintenance, regular cleaning with mild detergents and a soft cloth is sufficient. Harsh chemicals should be avoided to preserve transparency and elasticity.
Advantages of magnetic seals
- Reliable water seal: no moisture leakage.
- Quiet, smooth closing action: magnetic force gently pulls the door shut.
- Discreet appearance: transparent profiles suit all glass showers.
- Easy retrofitting: can also be fitted easily as a replacement part.
- Long service life: resistant to water, limescale and cleaning agents.
