Roof window seals
Roof windows bring light and fresh air into attic rooms and make a significant contribution to living comfort. At the same time, their location in the sloping roof surface means that they are particularly exposed to the elements. Rain, snow, hail, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations have a more intense effect here than on vertical windows. Roof window seals play a key role here: they protect against moisture penetration, prevent draughts, reduce heat loss and ensure a permanently tight seal between the sash and frame.
What to look out for
Roof window seals must not only be airtight and watertight, but also have a high resilience to return to their original shape after frequent opening and closing. They should remain elastic even at low temperatures and retain their dimensional stability at high temperatures. A suitable profile and the right Shore hardness are crucial for optimum function and a long service life.
Material and Shore hardness selection
We exclusively use TPE (thermoplastic elastomers) for roof window seals. This material combines the elasticity of rubber with the dimensional stability and ease of processing of plastic. It is UV and weather resistant, temperature resistant and durable.
We offer two Shore hardnesses that are particularly suitable for roof windows:
- 60 ShA– softer and more adaptable, ideal for roof windows with slightly uneven contact surfaces. This Shore hardness ensures gentle closing pressure and reliably compensates for small tolerances.
- 70 ShA – firmer and more dimensionally stable, suitable for roof windows with very precise contact surfaces or for applications where the seal is subject to greater mechanical stress. This hardness offers increased resistance to deformation and ensures a long-lasting sealing effect even under high stress.
Our roof window seals at a glance
- Standard colours: black, window grey.
- Also available: brown, beige, white.
- Special colours: available in almost all RAL colours for production quantities of 200 m or more.
Special design features:
- Profiles manufactured with millimetre precision, tailored to common roof window systems.
- High restoring force for a lasting seal.
- Material selection and degree of hardness optimally tailored to roof window loads.
Our product range
Our roof window seals cover a wide range of applications – from new builds to renovations.
They are available in various profile shapes that fit exactly with the rebate and support geometries of leading roof window manufacturers.
Standard seals – reliable all-round protection against driving rain, wind and cold, suitable for use in living spaces under the roof.
Special profiles – reinforced versions or profiles with adapted hardness for windows subject to particularly high stresses, e.g. in regions with extreme weather conditions.
Installation & care
Installation is carried out on clean, dry contact surfaces. Old seals should be removed completely. The new seal is inserted without tension and pressed down evenly. After installation, the window sash must close easily and the seal must fit snugly all around.
For maintenance, it is sufficient to clean the seal regularly with a mild cleaning agent and check it for damage. If visible wear is detected, it should be replaced immediately in order to maintain full sealing effectiveness.
