Seals for window sills, rain gutters, and skylights
Window sills, rain gutters, and skylights are exposed to severe weather and temperature fluctuations. The right seal ensures long-term reliable function, protects against moisture, cold, and dirt, and also contributes to the energy efficiency of the building. This preserves functionality and visual appeal in the long term.
Window sill, rain rail and roof window seals
Window sills, rain rails and roof windows are exposed to extreme weather conditions and temperature fluctuations. The right seal ensures that these components function reliably over the long term: it protects against moisture, cold and dirt, contributes to energy efficiency and maintains the visual appearance.
To ensure that a seal retains its full functionality over many years, a few points should be taken into account when selecting and installing it:
- Match the seal type and material to the respective application.
- Select the colour and degree of hardness appropriate for the application.
- Clean the contact surfaces and check for damage before installation.
- Insert the seal without tension – do not stretch or compress it.
- After installation, test the sealing effect, in particular water drainage and closing behaviour.
Precision for long-lasting function
GfA seal develops profiles that are precisely matched to the geometries of window sills, rain rails and roof windows. With millimetre-precise manufacturing, modern materials and sophisticated profile technology, we create solutions that are equally impressive in new buildings and renovations and withstand technical requirements in the long term. Manufactured in accordance with DIN 16941 / 3302, certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001 – for precision, quality and sustainability.
Material selection for window sill, rain rail and roof window seals
The choice of material has a significant influence on service life and functional reliability:
PVC – dimensionally stable, easy to maintain and economical; standard hardness 55 ShA, ideal for applications with moderate stress.
TPE – elastic, temperature-resistant and with very good resilience; standard hardness 60 ShA, ideal for building components subject to high stress and changing climatic conditions.
Silicone – permanently elastic, weather-resistant and temperature-resistant; ideal for particularly demanding applications with extreme mechanical or climatic stresses.
Additional options:
- Talc-coated – with a fine talc coating for easy installation and improved sliding properties.
Our window sill, rain rail and roof window seals at a glance
Standard versions are available in black, transparent and window grey. Other colours such as brown, beige and white are available for selected profile series. From a production quantity of 200 metres, almost any RAL colour can be realised.
Shore hardness:The Shore hardness according to scale A indicates the material hardness: Softer profiles adapt particularly well to uneven surfaces, while harder versions offer greater dimensional stability. Available values: up to 70 ShA, standard hardness for PVC 55 ShA, for TPE 60 ShA.
Special design features
Tear-out bar – integrated predetermined breaking edge for flexible adaptation to different groove shapes.
Our product range
- Window sills, rain rails and roof windows – we offer a coordinated range of seals for different installation situations and requirements. Each product group is designed to provide optimum protection against the effects of weather while ensuring a durable, dimensionally stable seal.
- Window sill seals – these profiles are specially manufactured for installation on window sills and provide a secure seal between the window frame and the window sill. They prevent driving rain and moisture from penetrating, protect against cold bridges and help to prevent structural damage caused by water. The seals fit perfectly with standard window sill systems and ensure a clean look.
- Rain rail seals – designed for use on rain rails to reliably protect the lower window area from water ingress. They drain rainwater away and prevent moisture from reaching critical joints. These seals are robust, weather-resistant and designed for a long service life under heavy use.
- Roof window seals – windows in sloping roof surfaces require particularly secure sealing, as these components are exposed to heavy driving rain, wind pressure and changing temperatures. Our specially developed profiles provide a circumferential, weatherproof seal and fit precisely to the designs of common roof window systems. They ensure long-lasting functionality even under extreme conditions.
Installation & maintenance
Installation is carried out on clean, dry contact surfaces. Remove old seals completely, insert new profiles evenly and check that they fit correctly. After installation, the building element must be sealed all around. Regular visual inspections and cleaning with a mild detergent extend the service life. If visible wear is detected, prompt replacement is recommended.
